Ruby V. Sheppard left this earth on Friday, July 21, 2007, to meet her heavenly family.

Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Lloyd James Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Ford officiating. Ruby will be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Rusk County.

Ruby was born on April 4, 1921, to Clifford and Mary Barber in Grand Saline. At an early age she moved to New London. Her Thompson and Maxwell ancestors were some of the first pioneer families in New London. Ruby was a survivor of the New London school explosion in 1937. She went on to graduate from New London High School in 1939 and McNeese College in 1941. She was an accountant with United Gas Corporation until she met her future husband and love of her life, Woodrow Wilson Sheppard. They we married on March 10, 1945, and had 56 loving years together. After marrying, Ruby and Woodrow lived in San Angelo before moving to Tyler in 1966. Ruby was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and enjoyed teaching Sunday school, GA's, and being church clerk. She centered her life around her daughter and grandchildren. Ruby was the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Helen Baggett and Jewel Hooper; and brothers, Vergil, Ollie and William (Buddy) Barber; as well as her beloved husband, Woodrow.

She is survived by loving daughter and son-in-law, Reba and Arden Miller; grandchildren, Amanda Atwood Julian and husband Josh, and Colton Miller; and by three great-grandchildren, Hope Bell, Angel and Grace Julian. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Clara Barber, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends

Pallbearers include Richard Ellis, Ron Barber, Scotty Barber. Tony Barber, J.W. Barber and Josh Julian.

Honorary pallbearers include Gordon Atwood and Frank Willis.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 13108 Highway 64 East, Tyler, 75707.
