Professional Cricketer. He played first-class cricket during the 1890s most notably for the Hawke's Bay Cricket Team while representing the Hawke's Bay Region of his home country New Zealand. He was born one of three children as John Robert Bayly A'Deane to John Tucker A'Deane (1826-1890), and his wife Maria Lydia Bayly A'Deane (1837-1903), in Takapau, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, on March 21, 1865. His siblings included William Whetham Wratislaw A'Dean (1870-1931), and Arthur Guy A'Dean (1876-1892). His father John who served as a Justice of the Peace founded the family homestead "Ashcott," near Takapau, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, and served on the Hawke's Bay Provincial Council, in New Zealand, including several years as speaker. He was educated locally and then attended the prestigious Haileybury College near Hertford Heath, Hertfordshire, England, and the prestigious Pembroke College in Cambridge, England, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts or B.A. in 1886. He began his professional cricket career in 1893 and played in three first-class matches, scoring 33 runs with a highest score of 17, and held two catches. He also took three wickets with a best winnings return of two for 31. His total professional cricket career includes batting and fielding, Mat 3, Inns 6, NO 0, Runs 33, HS 17, Ave 5.5O, 100s O, 5Os O, Ct 2, and St O, and in bowling, Mat 4, Balls 134, Runs 7O, Wkts 3, BBI 2/31, Ave 23.33, Econ 3.13, SR 44.6, Sw O, and 10w O. His professional cricket career lasted from 1893 to 1894, and from 1894 to 1895. He retired from playing professional cricket shortly thereafter. He passed away suddenly while having a conversation on the telephone at his home in Ashcott, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, on March 14, 1924, at the age of 58, just a week before he would have turned 59. Following his death, he was buried in the family plot in Ashcott Station Cemetery in Takapau, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. He was married to Margaret Maud Robertson (1876-1946), in Christchurch, New Zealand, in September 1899. The couple had two children together including Margaret Hamilton Marshall-A'Deane (1900-1970), and Violet Mary A'Deane (1905-2000). His wife Margaret survived him passing away in Waipukurau, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, on February 4, 1946, at the age of 69, and she is also buried in the family plot in Ashcott Station Cemetery in Takapau, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand.
