Mildred Johanna Ostenson died peacefully in her sleep in her home at the age of 77 on Thursday May 20, 2010 after a brave six month battle with illness. At the time of her death she was surrounded by her family.
She was born in Brook Park, Minnesota to Bernhard and Alfhild Carlson on January 22, 1933. She was baptized into the family of God on March 23, 1933 as a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she later attended Sunday School and was confirmed on May 25, 1947.
She grew up in the Brook Park area and attended Quamba School until the 8th grade . She then attended Mora High School where she graduated in 1951.

She was united in marriage with Emerald Victor Ostenson on January 6, 1951 in Grace Lutheran Church. After their marriage they lived in their farm in Peace township where Mildred has resided since.

After her marriage she became a member of Calvary Lutheran Church of Mora and in her earlier years was an active member of the Ladies Aide, She was a charter member of the Peace Neighbor Ladies Club - and often served as an officer. She and Emerald were also members of the local Farmer's Club and enjoyed these gatherings with their friends. She served as secretary of the School Board for the Emerson School and also volunteered many years as a local election judge.

Mildred worked side by side with her husband Emerald as a Farmer, she also operated an adult foster care home for approximately 10 years and prior to her retirement worked for many years as a nursing assistant at the Kanabec County Hospital. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. Mildred was a woman with simple needs and to which her family and friends were her most treasured possessions.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, needlework, but most of all spending time with family and friends. She loved to entertain and hosted many family and neighborhood gatherings and was always careful in preparing enough food to assure that no one went away hungry.

She was preceded in death by her husband Emerald, Parents Bernard and Alfhild, Brothers Ernest and Eldon and Sisters : Viola, Mavis and Elaine.

She is survived by four sons; James of Minneapolis, Kenneth (Connie) of Mora, John of Mora, and David also of Mora, four daughters ; Mrs Deborah (Ronald) Haavisto of Pine City, Mrs Joy (Kleo) Lewis of Mora, Helen Ostenson of Mora, and Mrs. Karrie ( Robert ) Letich of Plymouth,

Sister Mrs. Eldora Pearson of Mora. Brothers in law; Mr. & Mrs Virgil (Bette )Anderson of Mora, Mr & Mrs James ( Diane ) Marquart of Mora, Mr & Mrs. Lowell ( Marge) Strombeck of Mora,
6 grand sons and 3 grand daughters, as well as 2 great grandsons and 2 great grand daughters.
Many nieces, nephews and friends - particularly her very special friend Ruth Schultz of Mora.
She is also survived by her beloved dog Polly.
