Rites Saturday
Final services for Major M. Brister, 70-year old retired Hinds county planter, will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Saturday from Wright and Ferguson Chapel, with the Rev. Carey Cox, pastor of Brandon Baptist church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Russell M. McIntire, pastor of Clinton Baptist church, and the Rev. Thurmon Booth, of New Orleans. He had been ill for several years and died about 7:45 a.m. Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.W. Keeler, of Clinton.
He was a native of Yazoo City, a former resident of Isola and Terry and had lived in Clinton for the past two years.
He was a member of the Terry Baptist church.
His survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ada Thomas Brister; three daughters, Mrs. Keeler, of Clinton, Mrs. E. F. Verdell, of Haiti, Missouri, and Mrs. Mathis Holt, of Crystal Springs; five sons, Marvin M. Brister, Mitchell Brister, both of Jackson, Hiliary Brister of Clinton, the Rev. J.W. Brister, of Hammond, La., and the Rev. Freddie Brister, of Ponchatoula, La.; one brother, Frizelle Brister, of Houston, Texas; and three sisters, Mrs. W.C. Phillips, of Isola, Mrs. Gid Kelley, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. A. A. Neville, of Houston, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Interment will be made in Lakewood Mrmoial Park.
