John Bryces Ainslie Passes Away In 77th Year

A native of Millend, Lasswade, County of Edinburgh, Scotland and a highly respected citizen of this district, John Bryce Ainslie, passed away Tuesday, September 20 as a result of a coronary thrombosis at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.J. Brodie, R.R. 4 Stouffville. He was in his 77th year.

His life's work was that of a shepherd, as his father before him, and during his lifetime, he gained an undisputed reputation in this field as a sheep dog breeder.

Coming to Canada around 1900, he first settled in the west, moving east to Ottawa around 1925 where he was employed as shepherd at the Experimentl Farm there. Moving to Richmond Hill area around 1931, he took a position as shepherd for Don Head Farms, and worked in this capacity until 1940. He retired in 1950 and moved to King Township.

Mr. Ainslie was a member of the Canadian Sheep Breeders Association and was a familiar judge at numerous sheep dog trials in the United States and Canada. He gave sheep dog demonstrations from coast to coast and continued the raising of sheep dogs during his retirement.

A veteran of the first World War, Mr. Ainslie served 18 months with the Canadian Forestry Company in France as a private.

Mr. Ainslie was an elder of the Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church and a member of the local Orange Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Mona Lane, and children Mrs. W. Brodie (Eva), John, Edith, Mrs. Wm. Cook (Isobel) of Torida (sic), and Mrs. Thomas Krack (Beatrice) of New York City.
