Funeral Services For Oliver Smith on Wednesday

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Federated Church for Oliver F. Smith, 66, who died unexpectedly Monday morning in the Lutheran Hospital.
The Rev. Harold B. Taylor, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial cemetery with military graveside rites. The body will lie in state at the McKown Funeral home until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, then at the church until the hour of the service.
A longtime resident of Columbus, Mr. Smith was employed as office manager for the Gerhold Company for about 25 years and later was employed by George Sommermeyer, CPA, for a time. As a young man he was cashier in the Farmers
National Bank.
He was born August 11, 1895 near Schuyler, the son of John and Emalena Yonkie Smith, and received his education at Richland, where he spent his early years.
A World War I veteran, he enlisted in Company K, 6th Nebraska Infantry on June 24, 1917 and served overseas for the duration. He received his discharge June 28, 1919, as a corporal in Company B. 109th Supply Train.
Mr. Smith married Helene Wurdeman on September 21, 1922 in York, and they made their home in Columbus. She preceded him in death in 1949.
He was a member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge and the Schuyler Masonic Lodge.
A member of the Federated church, he was a former trustee and belonged to the Men's Fellowship.
Survivors are his daughter, Mrs. James M. (Nancy) Lesko of Racine, Wisconsin; one grandson, Andrew Charles Lesko; four brothers, George W. of Santa Monica, California, Charles E of Omaha, Harold E. of Coffeyville, Kansas, and Donald E.
of Lincoln; five sisters, Miss Agnes Smith and Mrs. Mabelle Blake of Lincoln, Mrs. Alice Brakel of Omaha, Mrs. Hazel Schwartz and Mrs. Viola Hallstead of Brighton, Colorado. A brother John preceded him in death.
