Wendy was a passenger in a motor vehicle when it collided with a stationary lorry on the Manchester road at Midhope, homeward bound to Sheffield, after a day out in Manchester. Wendy died at the scene. Driver of the vehicle was friend, Mr Wilfred H. Carter, who sustained deep lacerations to his face and transported to Sheffield Royal Infirmary.
An aircraft woman with the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, Wendy was buried with full military honours at Loxley Cemetery following at service at St Mark's, Broomhill. Wendy is survived by her parents, brother, aunts and numerous cousins.
