daughter, Grace Elizabeth Sloan Thomas, death certificate listed her parents as John W. Sloan and Margaret Delaney. There is other relevant information that is available in identifying that John W. Sloan's wife was in fact Margaret Delaney.

in the late 1890's John W. Sloan was Justice of the Peace in Olean, Cattaraugus, NY. He was found guilty of abusing his position. He also was an alcoholic and had once inflicted injury to wife and children. He was a Civil War veteran. He did return to his native town of Williamsport, Pa. as he and his wife were separated. In 1905, he and his wife celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary. This would indicated that John may have been married prior as his daughter, Rosabelle, precedes his marriage to Margaret by at least 6 years.

SIoan is a meek looking man with long grey beard , bald forehead, and a benevolent
expression — in fact, has quite a patriarchal appearance . He is a veteran of the Civil War, a member of the local G. A . R. post, and draws a pension.

Stout - Hornblower (Tuesday, April 6, 1909) article in Portville Review, April 1909.
A very pretty home wedding was held Tuesday evening at the home of W. M. Hornblower at Main, when the hand of his only daughter, Edna May was given in marriage to Larue Stout. Miss Livingston of Portville played the wedding march. Rev. Mr. Graham preformed the marriage ceremony. The bride was very prettily gowned in white silk and carried tea roses. The maid of Honor was also gowned in white and carried pink carnations. Among the gifts was a set of butter spreaders with beautiful pearl handles sent to the bride from her cousin, Walter Brown of Oregon. John Sloan, a great uncle sent her an elegant set of solid silver teaspoons. There were rare bits of
hand decorated china, cat glass, solid silver, beautiful table linen and many pretty and useful things ... ...
note: William Matthew Hornblower's wife was the former Miss Cassie Delaney who aunt was Margaret Delaney married to John W. Sloan. Therefore, John Sloan is Edna's great uncle.
