Another Revolutionary Soldier gone.
- Died, suddenly, at Newark, N.J. on Friday last, Gen. John N. Cumming, in the 70th year of his age; and on Sunday his remains were interred in the Presbyterian Church yard with all the respect due to so excellent a character. The pall was borne by Gen. Bloomfield, Col. Varick, Col. Ogden, Col. Whitlock, Col. Kollock, Judge Hennington, Major Ballard, and Dr. John Rogers. In the death of this gentleman, his family have lost an affectionate head, his acquaintance a warm and steady friend, his country a valuable citizen; and the part he acted in the revolution has finished his claim to the illustrious character of a patriot. Gen. Cumming entered the army the latter part of the year 1775, as a lieutenant, and continued in the service until the close of the war, in the course of which he rose by merit, to the rank of lieut. colonel. On Wednesday last, he met with the Cincinnati Society in that town, had no complaint, was cheerful, and looked well, and had the appearance of a man of extraordinary health for one of his years.
