Alvie Wellington Dungy, III, age 71 of Jackson, Michigan passed away with his loved ones at his side at Henry Ford Hospital Detroit on October 10th, 2019. Alvie was born to Alvie Wellington Dungy, Jr. and Helen (Green) Dungy on May 20, 1948. He is preceded in death by his father.
Alvie had a great love for his family. His children and grandchildren were his greatest joy in life. He was an avid fisherman. Fishing with his son and participating in Bass tournaments brought him immense happiness. He was a graduate of Jackson High School class of 1966. He attended the University of Michigan on a full academic scholarship and later earned his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University. He spent his career as a pillar of the Jackson downtown business district. Operating Save A Lot drugs and later retiring from South Central Michigan Works.
Throughout his 20s he spent his time raising and training horses. Alvie was an avid bowler and golfer. Above all he was a devoted Christian.
He is survived by his mother, and his loving family. His wife; Jacqueline Dungy, son; Aaron (Jessica) Dungy, daughters; Jennifer (Allen) Bradshaw and Alissa (Alex) Dungy-Manor, eight beautiful grandchildren; BreAnna , McKenna, Mallory, Marissa, Maddox Alanna, Amaya, and Atlas, sister; Beverly (Gene) Hurd, brothers; Bruce (Cathleen) Dungy and Kevin Dungy, several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his canine companion Yoshi.
