Brent Hawkins Self, 60, of Woodlawn, Illinois, passed away with his family by his side at 1:20 am January 11, 2020 at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was born November 18, 1959 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to Carmen (Hawkins) and the late Eddie M. Self, Jr. Brent married Sherry (Peterson) Self on January 24, 1981 in Mount Vernon.
In addition to his beloved wife of 38 years and mother, Brent is survived by his children, Christopher Self and wife, Brandi, Ashley Johnson and husband, Greg, and Hailey Moore and husband, Daniel; grandchildren, Kinley Dees, Malaya Self, Silas Moore, Aaliyah Moore, Quinn Moore, and two angel grandbabies in Heaven; siblings, Eddie Self III and wife, Karen, Lisa Mann and husband, Gary, and Clyde Self and wife, Martha; and several nieces and nephews.
Brent worked as the stage setup and roadie for the band, Head East for several years. He also worked as a production pumper for Self Oil. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Brent will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2020 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Reverend Ferris Orange officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Brent's honor to United Covenant Church or American Cancer Society.
