Margie M. Acklen, age 96 of Winchester, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Crookston, Minnesota on December 14, 1923 to the late Leo and Charlotte (Grove) Wallnofer.

She attended nursing school where she met her husband, Woodard Acklen. Mrs. Acklen was co-owner of Morris Ferry Dock for over twenty years, and she then worked at Knies Hardware and Gifts for many years. After retirement, she volunteered for many years at various charity organizations in her community. Mrs. Acklen enjoyed tending to her garden, playing cards, and watching hummingbirds, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Acklen was preceded in death by her husband, Woodard Acklen; sister, Leola Geisen; daughter-in-law, Dianna Smith Acklen; son-in-law, James C. “Jim” Franklin; and grandson, James Flint Franklin.

She is survived by her loving children, Alana Franklin of Winchester, and Dennis (Karon) Acklen of Estill Springs; grandchildren, Darbie (Billy) Sizemore of Decherd, Faith Ann Franklin-Hall (Mark) of Estill Springs, Foresa (Eric) Holt of Winchester, Darren (Mindy) Acklen of Decherd, Fhebe Franklin Lane of Lexington, Texas, Farrah (Matt) Thomsen of Cookeville, and Fhilip (Whitney) Franklin of Winchester; great-grandchildren, Alana Hope Franklin, Stone Smith, Peyton Graf, Sophia Smith, Drake Sizemore, Mikayla Thomsen, Mikah Thomsen, Mace Thomsen, Halee Lane, Sage Hall, Miles Thomsen, Cooper Franklin, Kellar Franklin, and Mayan Thomsen; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1-3 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 pm in the Moore-Cortner Chapel. Interment will be at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
