Meredith Lynn Sullivan

Radnor, PA - Meredith passed away suddenly in her home in Radnor, PA, April 23, 2018. She was 33. She was born January 31, 1985, in Newark, DE. She attended Pike Creek Christian School, Fred S. Engle Middle School, and graduated from Avon Grove High School in 2003. Meredith committed to the University of Delaware after receiving a coveted position on the Blue Hen Cheerleading Team. She graduated from UD in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Communication and added a Master's in Educational Technology in 2017.

Meredith was born to grace a stage. She excelled in dance recitals and gymnastics competitions across Delaware and Pennsylvania. She grew to become a talented young woman who, early on, showed an ability to multitask without sacrificing quality or effort. She led her middle and high school cheerleading squads as captain while also serving in multiple cabinet roles on student council. She dazzled audiences as Puck in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and stole the show in "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" as Veruca Salt. A talented athlete and scholar, Meredith made the tennis, lacrosse, and track teams while also earning a spot in the National Honor Society for academics and community service.

While a cheerleader at UD, Meredith was thrilled to see her Blue Hens win the 2003 National Football Championship. She was honored to be chosen as a goodwill ambassador for the team and traveled to China to teach her beloved sport. Meredith loved coaching and teaching; before she became an adjunct professor at UD, she coached cheerleading at Avon Grove High School, Newark High School, and for the Middletown Nitros.

After being sidelined by an injury, Meredith discovered her passion for communication as an intern for WHYY running social media, reporting, and producing the Emmy-nominated documentary, "Joe Biden's Journey." She then worked on Capitol Hill as a communications manager for U.S. Congressman Mike Castle and ran a winning campaign for former Delaware State Treasurer Chip Flowers. In 2010, she left politics to work for her alma mater and worked her way up the ladder to become Senior Director of Marketing. While there, she also created award-winning social media programs and taught courses in digital marketing and public relations before leaving to become an Assistant Vice President at Villanova University. Meredith loved her students and was happy to encourage and guide them well beyond the classroom. At the same time, Meredith was a consultant for Ruffalo Noel Levitz, partnering with colleges and universities across the country to develop forward-thinking strategies for branding, marketing, and digital and social media.

Meredith accomplished more in a day than most are capable of in a week. She served on nonprofit boards, volunteered in her local community, participated in countless races for charitable causes, and in 2016, ran for Delaware Senate, yet she somehow always had time for those she loved.

She is survived by her mother, Faye Grant Sullivan of Landenberg; sister, Jessica of Philadelphia; brother, Thomas of Philadelphia; her maternal grandmother, Irma Grant (Mimi) whom Meredith adored, of Wilmington; maternal grandfather, William Grant of Wilmington; maternal aunt, Carol Grant (Robert Zehner); estranged father, Andrew Sullivan of Wilmington; and her beloved dog, Indy.

A private funeral was held by her family. A public memorial for family, friends, colleagues and community will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at Mitchell Hall at the University of Delaware. Please register to attend at https://rememberingmeredith.eventbrite.com . Seating is limited.
