Durante, Armand "Hank," 89, long time resident of Orange County since 1953, passed away March 29, 2011, in Rancho Mirage, California of natural causes in the presence of his family. He was born to Louis and Mary Durante in Cheyenne Wyoming, January 27, 1922. He was the youngest of 5 brothers and 1 sister. He attended St. Mary's Catholic High School in Cheyenne, where he played on the varsity basketball team, had the lead role in his school's opera, and the lead in his senior class play. Upon graduation in 1936, he drove his parents to California and moved to the Garden Grove/Orange area. After serving in the United States Navy, as an officer and flight instructor during World War II, he completed his duty in 1946, and married Ethel Margaret Sorrels in Corpus Christi, Texas, on July 12, 1946. After returning to California, Hank completed his degree at USC and received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Hank began his career in the insurance business with the Paul Muench Company, located in the City of Orange's downtown plaza, and later became President. He was a founding partner of Orange National Bank, and former Chairman of the Bank's Board of Directors. (Orange National Bank later merged with Citizens Business Bank.) In 1985, Hank and his wife moved to Anaheim Hills and were active parishioners of San Antonio Catholic Church. Hank was a well respected member of the community and engaged in many service clubs and organizations including Optimist Club, Sons of Italy, Knights of Columbus, Italian-American Society, San Antonio Eucharistic Minster, and the Orange Rotary North where he served as President and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Over the years Hank was an avid bowler, golfer, and he was a literary and sports enthusiast. He loved USC and Norte Dame Football, LA Lakers, and a long time season ticket holder of the Angels Baseball team. Hank is preceded in death by his wife, Ethel of 62 years. He is survived by his daughter, Ronna Kivisto, of Palm Desert; grandsons, Robert Kasprzyk (Paula) of San Bernardino; Casey Kasprzyk of Los Angeles; great grandchildren Aaron, Emily, Sarah Kasprzyk (Robert); sister Mary Peck of Palm Desert; nieces Darlene Alioto of Santa Rosa, California; Angela Gipson (Ron) of Elkton, Oregon; Deidre Pope (Bob) of Springfield, Oregon; great nephew, Mark Andrew Binder (Roberta) of Washington State; Margaret Blair (Neal) Padre Island, Texas; Sherry Lea Wright (William) Cisco, Texas. Rosary and visitation are Sunday, April 3rd, 5-8pm with a rosary at 7:00pm at Shannon-Bryan Mortuary, Orange, California. Funeral Mass is Monday, April 4th, 10:00am, at San Antonio Catholic Church, Anaheim Hills, California. He will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Orange, California, immediately following Monday's Mass.
