Oil Well Accident
Fatal For Driller

SHAMROCK, Tex., Feb. 28 (AP). Howard F. Faris, 57, Sayre, Okla., died in a Shamrock hospital Friday two and onr-half hours after a joint of 2-inch tubing fell from an oil well rig mast and crushed his skull.

The accident occurred while Faris, a drilling contractor, and two helpers were cleaning out a well on the Mitchell lease nine miles northeast of here. Helpers said the elevator, used in lowering tubing to the rig floor after it had been pulled from the whole, unlatched, allowing the pipe to strike Faris.

Faris, well-known in Texas and Oklahoma oil fields, had worked in the Shamrock field for the past 18 years.

Survivors include one son, Jim Faris, Stratford; one daughter, Mrs. J. W. Dies, Oklahoma City, and one set-daughter, Mrs. Lois Maloy, Bakersfield, Calif.

The body will be sent to Sayre for burial.
