Marie B. Wisecup, 99, of Waukee, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at Legacy Pointe in Waukee.
Marie was born February 15, 1920, near Stratford, Iowa, daughter of Jess B. and Emma (Scott) Burton. She was married to Eldon Wisecup of Luther, Iowa in 1942. Soon after they married Eldon entered the service for World War II. During the war, Marie was employed in Boone and at the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny.
After the war, they farmed in Boone County and moved to a farm near West Des Moines in 1952 and she has lived in the West Des Moines area ever since. After the children were through school, she was employed by Farm Bureau Insurance until her retirement in 1987.
Marie enjoyed doing genealogy, tracing the family roots. She enjoyed tending her many flower beds, square dancing, showing & judging flower shows, and quilting. She was a member of the West Des Moines Women's Club, Greater Des Moines Garden Club, Iowa Genealogical Society, and the Merry Mixers Square Dancing Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eldon; two sons, Larry and Steve; three brothers, Jessie, Paul and Keith; and three sisters, Maxine, Hazel and Faye.
Marie is survived her children Roger (Kay) Wisecup of West Des Moines and Diane (Ron) Pearson of Leesburg, FL; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Perry) Smith, Jacob Wisecup, Susan Nanzer and Bruce (Von) Pearson; five great grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; a sister Esther Toepfer of Mount Vernon, IA and sister-in-law Rose Burton Perry, IA; plus several nieces and nephews.
Funeral and burial will be at a later date.
