Alice Lee Clarke , a cousin of Robert E. Lee would visit her Lee cousins with her grandchildren. While visiting her cousins, Alice died at the Custis Lee Mansion. She is known to have been buried on the hill outside the great house. The exact site is now unknown, but it is said her burial site is right on the hill outside the mansion near the family plot. Arlington Cemetery does not have a record of her burial, which was before the Civil War.
