Professional Football Player. Born in Minnesota, Hanke played as an end and tackle for the American Professional Football Association's Hammond Pros in 1921 (and later in the NFL from 1922 to 1923), and for the National Football League's Chicago Bears in 1922, and the Chicago Cubs in 1924. He retired from playing football after three seasons. During World War II, he served as a Commander in the United States Naval Reserve. After his military service, he worked as the Chief of Maintenance and Operation for the Metropolitan Sanitary District of Greater Chicago for many years. He was an honored member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers. He died from cancer.
