New Orleans Jazz muscian and American trombone player, Lucien Joseph Barbarin, Sr., was from an extended family of musicians. He began working at an early age and showed talent with multiple instruments, but eventually focused on the trombone. Barbarin developed his own style and tone and was known to play in the French Quarter's Preservation Hall Jazz Band club, perform at the Palm Court Jazz Cafe and other local spots (including alongside Harry Connick Jr.'s jazz troupe), and was a mentor to many students of jazz.
