Hampton Alexander and Lillian Maude Lorick Lorick were united (by Rev. William L. Darr) in Holy Matrimony at the home of Mrs. Mildred Bookman Lorick (Maude's mother) on the 17th day of December in the year of our Lord 1890 in the presence of Jacob Eleazer Haltiwanger (FAG #108754062) and William Henry Lorick (FAG #57045115).

NOTE: Rev. Darr was born on January 7, 1864 and died in 1938 (FAG #63956833). He and his wife, Lillie Sligh Darr, are buried in Saint Martins Cemetery, Troutman, N.C.. He was pastor at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Irmo, S.C., from 1889-1896.

COLUMBIA, SC - Hampton Alexander Lorick, 62, Columbia Merchant, died at his late residence on River Drive, Columbia, SC at 10 o'clock last night following a stroke of paralysis Friday morning.

Mr. Lorick was well known in Columbia and though he had been in declining health for the past two years, the news of his death will greatly shock his many friends.

He was a devoted member of the Ebenezer Lutheran church, which he served faithfully during the many years that he had been connected with it.

He was also a member of the Masons, New Brookland Lodge and of the Columbia Lodge, No 106, and of the Knights of Pythias.

He had lived in Columbia since 1912 and was originally from Irmo, South Carolina.

He is survived by his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Frederick James McIver (Olive Maude Lorick), Mrs. Julius Clarence Dreher, Sr. (Lillian Viola (Ola) Lorick), Mrs. Howard Wilbur (Daisy Aline Lorick) Moody, Sr., all of Columbia; one Sons, William Wade Lorick of Lexington, South Carolina; six brother, George Singley Lorick, Wade Augustus Lorick, and Melton Charlton Lorick, all of Columbia; Jesse Drafts Lorick of Prosperity, South Carolina, Pinkney Wade Lorick of Irmo, South Carolina; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Dora Lorick-Singley of Columbia and Mrs. Carrie Lillian Lorick-Geiger of Spartanburg, South Carolina and six grandchildren.

Funeral will be conducted at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church with burial in the church's cemetery.

Funeral services for Hampton A. Lorick, 63, who died at his home on Riverside drive (Should be River Drive) about 10 o'clock Monday night, will be held from the Ebenezer Lutheran church at 4 o'clock this afternoon, with the Rev. P. D. Brown, pastor in charge. Interment will be in the churchyard cemetery.

He was born in Lexington (Irmo)Fork, November 8, 1867, the son of W. A. Lorick, (Wade Alexander Lorick) who lived on the highway from Columbia to Newberry and his mother was Ellen Drafts, both of which have long since predeceased him. His early life was spent on his father's farm until he was married on December 17, 1890, after which time a portion of his time was spent on the farm of his uncle, G. W. Lorick (George Washington Lorick). His wife is the daughter of Willie Lorick (William Washington Lorick), whose mother was Minnie Bookman (Lorick).

In early life he began farming and merchandising and spent the greater portion of his early manhood in the vicinity of his birth at these occupations until Irmo was founded. He moved from first residence to Irmo and continued in the mercantile business and to farm until he moved to Columbia about 1912. Since that time he had been in the mercantile business on Riverside drive (River Drive).

Early in life he was confirmed a member of Old Bethlehem church, Bookman (Bookman Church). Since that time he has served as a consistent and active member of the Lutheran church, always interested in the advancement of religion and willing to serve this cause either with his physical energies or by contributions.

Soon after moving to Irmo, he was very active in having the old church (Bookman Church) near Broad River moved to Irmo (Now 10,000 Broad River Road) and during his life at Irmo he was very active in support of the institution at that place. This connection continued until he moved to Columbia when he transferred his membership to Ebenezer Lutheran Church.

His business career both at its beginning in the (Richland) county and its continuance in Irmo and also its further continuance in Columbia has been always honest and conscientious. He is highly respected by all those merchants with whom he dealt, and made friends easily with his customers because of his friendly disposition.

He is very fond of children and contributes largely to their joy and pleasure in his store and home. It has been his habit for a number of years to make special prices on articles which was sold to ministers of any denominations and their families.

In his death the state and the church have lost a valuable and progressive citizen and white his immediate family mourns his lost they have a number of friends who sympathize with them in this loss.

He and his wife are both buried in the Ebenezer Lutheran Church Cemetery. Their last address was at 2734 River Drive, Columbia, SC, which was next door to the grocery store he ran for many years. His wife, Maude, helped him in this store before he died in 1930.
