Orlando King Lane, born about 1841, fought in the Civil War with Co. K of the 2nd New York Cavalry. He was living in the Samuel Baum household in Indianola IL, working as a painter, at the time of the 1880 census. He was married to Harriet Alice Holmes in Indianola IL by Methodist minister W. J. Tull on 12 June 1881. They had one daughter.

The obituary for Private Lane in the Danville Daily News on 10 May 1897 stated that he was to be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery near Indianola. However, his military stone order documented burial at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ridge Farm. The stone is located in the "Veterans' Circle" area. He was a member of the Ridge Farm G. A. R., whose members managed his funeral. He had lived 2 miles east of Indianola where he was proprietor of a fruit farm. The obituary notes he was a correspondent of The News under the name "Benzine."

After his death his widow Alice nee Holmes married Frank Walls, who is buried at Georgetown Cemetery. Alice's burial location has not been verified, possibly at Michael Cemetery where her parents are buried. Their daughter was not named in his News obituary and possibly predeceased him.
