Death of Thomas Casey.
The Faribault Pilot of the 19th inst. contains the following:
Thomas Casey, one of the pioneer residents of the town of Wells, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Carpenter, of Shieldsville, at 2 o’clock Saturday morning. He had been an invalid for several months, and his death, though a severe blow to his family and friends, was not unexpected. Mr. Casey was born in county Tipperary, Ireland, in 1834. He came to America when quite young and settled in the state of Iowa, where he remained until 1855, when he came to Rice county, and settled on a farm in the town of Wells, which has since been his home. He is survived by a widow and nine children, viz: John Casey of Anoka; Thomas, of Wells; Mesdames Edward Brown of Le Sueur; Michael O’Brien, of Belle Plaine; Michael Welch, of Wells; J. C. Carpenter, of Shieldsville; Thomas Rainy, of Texas, and Joseph and Beatrice Casey, who reside on the old homestead.
The funeral took place at 10 o'clock Monday morning from St. Patrick’s church, Shieldsville. The services were conducted by Rev. J. J. Slevin, who delivered an instructive sermon, during which he paid a tribute of respect to the memory of the deceased. At the conclusion of the services the remains were laid to rest in Shieldsville cemetery.
