Faye was born in Courtland, Alabama and graduated from high school at Hazelwood High, in Town Creek, Alabama. After graduation she attempted college, for the first time, at a local school but did not due well because her dyslexia. She then pursued her love and talent for art for a short period in New Orleans, before becoming very hungry and coming home. Faye worked, briefly, in an underwear factory before getting her cosmetology license. After working in someone else's beauty shop, Faye began teaching cosmetology then opened her own shop in December of 1964. Faye's career took off:
modeling, teaching hairstyling, participating at hair styling competitions, starring in a local television show "Beauty Scope", studying with noted designers, continuing her artistic education, and coordinating fashion shows.
It was at a fashion show where she met, Joe Hooper. It was a rocky beginning being that Joe was way more entitled than Faye thought he had right, which was true. After much courting and encouragement from others, Faye and Joe got married June 18, 1972.
Faye and Joe did much traveling due to his position in the military. They traveled in and out of the country.
In Seattle, Washington, on January 13 1976, their only child, Joey was born. Faye, Joe, and Joey were a family for only 3 short years until Joe died on May 6, 1979. After Joe's death, Faye moved back to Alabama to be closer to her family. She made Decatur, Alabama her home for the next 37 years.
Faye participated in many activities including: Veteran's and Memorial day celebrations, American Legion, Joey's school activities, and then with her family at Beltline Church of Christ.
In August of 2017, after an increase in medical issues, Faye moved to Aurora, Colorado with daughter Joey and son-in-law Jacob and her grand-dogs. Faye and her family got to experience some wonderful times and make awesome memories during that 2.5 years.
Faye is being cremated in Denver, Colorado. A small viewing with immediate family only will take place prior. She will, at unknown date and time, be inurned with late husband Joe, in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.
Faye is survived by: her daughter, Joey Hooper; son-in-law, Jacob Hayes; best friend/sister, Joan McCollum; and friend/niece, Mary Lyndon.
