Mrs. Hakes was born in Marion Center, Kan., Dec. 27, 1879, a daughter of John and Kate DeHaven Briggs. She was married to Samuel A. Hakes Sept. 18, 1900 at Virginia, Ill. He died in 1941.
She is survived by three sons, Howard and Albert, Pekin, and Edgar, Chicago; one daughter, Mrs. Ollie Oats, Pekin; and two sisters, Mrs. Elenore Degitz, Beardstown, and Mrs. Anna Fritz, Kent, Ohio. Three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
