William Stewart White was born in 1846 in County Armagh, Ireland. His father was John White and William went to study at Trinity College in Dublin, he became a barrister at Law in London and admitted to the bar at Middle Temple, The Inns of Court, London. He married Mary Ann Emily Mew on 2 Jan 1878 at St. George, Bloomsbury, Camden, Middlesex, England. He and his family immigrated to the US in 1883 by way of the Egyptian Monarch. Before moving to San Francisco he and his family joined relatives in Galveston, Texas. He and Emily had 6 children (Arthur, George, Hugh, Mary, William, and Isabel). He was buried in the Masonic Cemetery which is now the University of San Francisco and his remains were relocated to Woodlawn Cemetery to make room for city development.
