Jack J. Bondi, a 10-year resident of Norman, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014, after a lingering illness. Born Jan. 24, 1920, in Milwaukee, Wis., he was 94. He attended schools in Milwaukee and then enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving with the 45th Infantry Division under Gen. George S. Patton in Sicily and then with the U.S. Army in Italy. He was awarded the Silver Star for rescuing a wounded fellow GI from behind enemy lines and was honorably discharged as a technical sergeant in early 1945. Returning to Milwaukee, he married Evelyn Herrick on March 3, 1945. They celebrated 62 years together before being separated by Evelyn’s death in 2007. They had two children, a son, Michael Bondi of Niwot, Colo., and a daughter, Diane Rankin of Norman. Returning to Milwaukee, he married Evelyn Herrick on March 3, 1945. It may sound trite, but it’s true: Jack was loved by everyone who came to know him. He is survived by his son, Michael and his wife Lisa; his daughter, Diane and her husband Charles; five grandchildren, Christian “CJ” Bondi and his wife Carolyn of Tucson, Ariz., Aaron Bondi and his wife Dawn of Longmont, Colo., Michael Bondi of San Francisco, Nathan Rankin and Andrew Rankin, both of Norman; and four great-grandchildren, Reina and Jake Bondi of Tucson and Gabriella and Madeline Bondi of Longmont. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Primrose chapel at Primrose Funeral Service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Primrose Funeral Service, primrosefuneralservice.com.
