Obituary
"Double Funeral --- Joint services for Mrs. Mattie S. Bayliss, of Jefferson, and her brother, Nugent Kelly, of Route 2, Jefferson, are arranged for 11 a.m. Saturday from the Corinth Baptist Church, in Jefferson. The Rev. W.M. Bolden is to officiate. Interment is to be in Corinth Colored Cemetery.

A lifelong resident of Jefferson and a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Mrs. Bayliss died Sunday. She was a member of the Heroines of Jericho, the Missionary Society and Union Board District One. Her brother was a drowning victim Wednesday, in Dallas, where he was employed.

Surviving Mrs. Bayliss are her husband, Si Bayliss Jr., of Jefferson; seven daughters, Mrs. Laura C. King, of Harbor City, California, Mrs. Beatrice Martin and Mrs. Effie D. Johnson, both of Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Luella Thompson, of Oakland, California, Mrs. Iva Freeman, of Jefferson, Mrs. Mable L. Taylor, of Houston, and Mrs. Nugent Walker, of Duncan, Oklahoma; six sons, Horace G. Bayliss, of New York City, New York, the Rev. T.L. Bayliss and Johnny E. Bayliss, both of Compton, California, Richard Bayliss, of Los Angeles, California, Troy Bayliss, of Wellington, California, and Sye E. Bayliss, of San Diego, California; four sisters, Mrs. Irene McCoy, of Jefferson, Mrs. Mable Green, of El Dorado, Arkansas, Mrs. Gertrude Hines, of Sour Lake, and Mrs. Viola Lewis, of Daingerfield; three brothers, Richard Kelly and Jesse Kelly, of Jefferson, and W.H. Kelly, of Greenville; 18 grandchilden; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Kelly was the third oldest child of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kelly, of Jefferson. He married the late Mrs. Ollie Boose Devereaux, who preceded him in death.

The bodies of the brother and sister are at Lewis & Walker Funeral Home, in Jefferson.

Surviving Mr. Kelly are a son, Jodie R. Kelly, of Marshall; three brothers; and four sisters."
