Marlene Burgess, age 80, of Glenwood, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2020.

She was born on August 18, 1939, in Hayworth, Oklahoma, the daughter of Nathan Hudgins and Clyda Vernetta Hankins Hudgins. On January 20, 1956, she was married to Doyle Burgess, who preceded her in death on April 5, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ezra Hudgins and Mark Hudgins; and three sisters, Ruth Hawkins, Elsie Presley and Doris Kirkland.

One of Marlene’s greatest joys in life was going to church, she loved studying and learning all she could about the Bible and was a member of the Mount Calvary Church in Glenwood. She worked for over ten years for Georgia Pacific and the Glove Factory for over thirty-two years, until her retirement. She was an avid fan of the Caddo Hills Indians, the Razorbacks, loved watching baseball, enjoyed gardening, hummingbirds and flowers.

Marlene was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, but to her the greatest gift she ever received was being “Granny”. She truly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathy Linville and Kim and Bryan McCormick, all of Glenwood; one son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Sue Burgess of Bonnerdale; six grandchildren and their spouses, Steve and Kelli Bates, Joe Bates, Josh Bates, Brandon and Traci Bean, Shena Thew and Eli Burgess; eight great-grandchildren, Mariah and Halee Bates, Braelynne and Baylor Bates, Jordan and Lexi Bates, Addison Thew and Brinlee Bean; her special granddaughter, Trina Bates; her sister-in-law, Elsie White of Glenwood; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 16, 2020, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Bro. Ralph Hamilton officiating.

Visitation will be held Saturday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the County Line Cemetery, Glenwood.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Steve Bates, Josh Bates, Joe Bates, Brandon Bean, Jordan Bates, and Eli Burgess.
