Her funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 21, at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, 771 Somerset St., Somerset, N.J. Viewing is 9 a.m., until the time of service.
Dorothy was born in Memphis, Tenn., on Oct. 2. She was raised in St. Louis, Mo., and educated through the St. Louis public schools. She attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo., where she earned her B.A. in sociology and her master of social work from Washington University in St Louis.
Dorothy had a successful career working in various social service agencies, Center for Family Services Inc in Camden, N.J.; Family Services Inc. in Newark, N.J., before retiring from Kean University, School of Social Work, as the director of admissions in 2012.
Dorothy was very involved and active on several boards of directors and advisory boards. All her life, Dorothy loved to sing and was an active member at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset, N.J., where she participated in the choir ministry. Dorothy proudly represented her beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc since 1958.
Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband, Carlton J. Rowe; children, Keenan and Sybil Emory, Nicole and Michael Rowe, along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, two sisters-in-laws, many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Burial will be held at the Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Service, New Brunswick.
