JOHN MAHAFFAY DIES SUDDENLY TODAY, AGED 70 [sic]
Wife Prostrated by News of Brothers Death When Husband Is Stricken.

John Mahaffay, a resident of Kirksville for the past fourteen years and prior to that a farmer in the neighborhood of Brashear, died suddenly this morning at 9:30 o'clock after a stroke of paralysis, at the family home 1101 South Florence street. Mr. Mahaffay sustained a second stroke of paralysis last summer, but apparently was in good health early today. He was about 70 [sic] years old.
He leaves a wife and five sons, the children of a former wife. The sons are George Mahaffey, of Brashear; John, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and three sons who are graduates of the A. S. O., Dr. Andrew Mahaffey, of Valparaiso, Neb.. Dr. Charles Mahaffey, of Helena, Mont., and Dr. Ira Mahaffey, of South McAllister, Okla. Two of the sons were members of the faculty of the A. S. O., at one time, and several of them have been students at the Normal school.
Funeral arrangements will not be completed until word is received from the sons.
Mrs. Mahaffey was sick in bed at the time of her husband's death, having been almost prostrated by the receipt of the news of the death of a brother last night.

MAHAFFEY FUNERAL TO BE HELDIN BRASHEAR
The body of John Mahaffey, who died here Monday, will be taken to Brashear on the early morning train tomorrow and the funeral services will be held at the church there at 10 o'clock. Mr. Mahaffey lived in the Brashear neighborhood until fourteen years ago.
