David Cody and Lillie Brayton were married on January 20, 1914, in St. Louis, Missouri. They had no children. Eventually, they separated. She was listed as a waitress and her marital status was single on her death certificate. Lillie died of shock and injuries sustained when a car she was riding in crashed into a bridge.

NEWARK.
The body of Mrs. Lilly Cody was brought here last Thursday from St. Louis for burial in the I.O.O.F. cemetery by the side of the graves of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Brayton. Her mother died years ago, and for a while she made her home with an aunt, Mrs. Jennie Vaden. Her father was buried here the first of the year. Mrs. Cody, who was 35 years of age, was killed in an automobile accident. Eckhart Gottschamer, Mrs. Agnes Callow and Mrs. Emma Goodwin of St. Louis accompanied the body here.
