Norman (Norm) G. Tatro, 71, of 15030 State Route 30, Malone, New York, died February 8 following long struggles with illness.

Born in Malone on April 26, 1945, he was the son of the late Donald and Gladys (Reome) Tatro.

He was married to the former Veronica LaClair on December 31, 2003.

Besides his wife, surviving are two children, Jacenta (Patrick) Smith of Arizona and Eric (Mandee) Tatro of California, and one step-daughter, Odette (Jamie) Curtiss of East Nassau.

He is also survived by three brothers: Rick (Shelly) and Dick (Mary) of Malone, and Gary (Nancy) of Merrill, and three sisters: Linda Bigness, Susie Tavernia, and Jean (Bob) Martin, Jr. of Malone. Also surviving are two sister-in-laws, Sandy and Roni.

He is survived by five grandchildren: Brooke, Brittany, Ocean, Asa, and Phoenix, and two step-grandchildren: Alexis and Jamison Curtiss.

Norm was predeceased by his parents, three brothers: John, Donald Jr., and James, and one sister, Sally Dear, and two brother-in-laws: Douglas Dear and Dennis Bigness.

Norm retired in 1988 while serving as Assistant Chief of Police for the Malone Village Police Department. His second retirement was in 2006 while working as a Dealer for Akwesasne Mohawk Casino.

For many years, Norm was a member of the Moose and the Amvets, and was an active pledge member for ASPCA.

He enjoyed bowling, karaoke, sports, and reading. He was particularly fond of country music; Johnny Cash being his favorite artist.

“Uncle Norm” leaves behind many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family, and he loved, and was loved by, his extended family on the LaClair side.

A Catholic Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 15th at St. Mary’s Church in Brushton at 11 am, and a Celebration of Life/Bereavement Meal will follow at St Mary’s Parish Center on the Gale Road in Brushton.
