The Last will & Testament for Alexander Wolcott was dated June 22, 1884.
It reads as follows: I, Alexander Wolcott, of the county of Cook and state of Illinois, of the age of 69 years being of sound mind and memory do make, publish, and declare this my last will and testament in manner following , that is to say.
First, I give and bequeath to my wife, Mary A. Wolcott, one fifth of all my personal property.
Second, I give and bequeath to my son, Henry A. Wolcott, all my books, maps, plats, papers, and instruments therefore used in my business of surveying so long as he shall carry on the business of surveying and in case he abandons said business then the said books, maps, plats, papers and instruments shall be sold to the best advantage and the proceeds there of equally divided between my four (4) children herein after married share and share alike.
Third, I give and bequeath to my daughter, Mary McGrew, my watch chain and charms and to my daughter Charlotte Wolcott my gold watch.
Fourth, I give and bequeath all the rest, residue, and remainder of my personal estate and, goods to my children Mary McGrew, Henry A. Wolcott, Charlotte Wolcott, and Caroline A. Wolcott to be equally divided between them share and share alike.
Fifth, I give and bequeath to my wife, one third of my real estate of whatsoever kind or nature and all the rest residue and remainder of my said real estate, I give and bequeath to my said children Mary McGrew, Henry A. Wolcott, Charlotte Wolcott, and Caroline A. Wolcott to be equally divided between them share and share alike.
Sixth, I give and bequeath all moneys, notes, bills, and debt due or owed me to my said wife Mary A. Wolcott and my children, Mary McGrew, Henry A. Wolcott, Charlotte Wolcott, and Caroline A. Wolcott to be equally divided between them share and share alike.
Lastly, I hereby nominate and appoint George R. McClellan sole executor of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand this 22nd day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and eighty four.
