Obituary in the Conway Springs Star, August 25, 1927: MRS. G. W. THORPE BURIED HERE TUESDAY. Mrs. George W. Thorpe, one of the older pioneers of this community, died at Detroit, Mich., last Saturday, August 20. The body was brought here and funeral services conducted by Rev. A. B. Kirk of Wichita were held from the Baptist Church here Tuesday afternoon, and interment was made in Conway Springs cemetery. A few months ago Mr. And Mrs. Thorpe went to the home of their daughter, Mrs. H. T. Bentley at Farmington, Mich. Mr. Thorpe's health would not permit him to accompany the body here. Mrs. F. C. Orr of this place was the only one of the three children who could attend the services here. Jane Elizabeth Ball was one of the twelve children of James and Virginia Walker Ball. Born in Hanging Rock, Ohio, Nov. 17, 1856--died at Detroit, Mich., Aug. 20, 1927. Her father was a Baptist preacher and she was converted when quite young and united with the Baptist Church. She was married July 2, 1871 to George W. Thorpe. To them were born five children, three of whom, with the husband survive. In the fall of 1884 they moved to Conway Springs, where they have lived ever since, with the exception of three years residence in Florida. The children are Mrs. Fred Orr of Conway Springs; Mrs. H. T. Bentley, Detroit, Mich.; Mr. R. Earl Thorpe, Orange Park, Florida.
