At the beginning of the First World War in the US enrolled in the legions of Stefanik and fought in France. During the First Republic he helped build the Czech-Slovak army. He was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. After the coup d'état in February, he refused to join the Communist Party and as early as March 3, 1948, he was put out of service and subsequently retired without pension.
In early June 1951 he was put into custody and sentenced to four and a half years in prison. He was imprisoned in Ilava Prison, in remedial labor camps in the Antonín Mine in Zbýšov and in Rtyně in Podkrkonoší. In 1990 he was returned to the rank of Brigadier General in memoriam.
His daughter Eva Kristinova is a well-known Slovak actress.
