Captain R. F. Zogbaum, USN, was designated Naval Aviator #3469 in 1929. Graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1901.

Upon being designated as a Naval Aviator Capt. Zogbaum would command the Navy's first aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Langley (CV-1) as well as the U.S.S. Saratoga (CV-3).

Retired in 1936 and recalled for a short period of active service during World War II.
