Mrs. Helen Howell Vickery Dowis Brown, 92, of Royston, GA passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at the St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia, GA.
Mrs. Brown was born in Hartwell, GA daughter of the late George E. Vickery and the late Bertha Howell Vickery. She was a retired English teacher having worked in the Franklin County School System and was an active member of the Royston Baptist Church. Mrs. Brown was also a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Georgia Retired Teachers Association, American Cancer Society, United Way, and was a former member of the Franklin County Board of Education.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Earl Dowis, Sr.; second husband, Harold C. Brown; sons, Leonard Earl Dowis, Jr. and Michael Dee Dowis; brothers, George Vickery, Oscar Vickery and her twin, Henry Howell Vickery; and sisters, Jo Stephens, Frances Gillespie Todd and Marion Reed.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra (Dennis) Fleeman of Canton, GA and Phyllis Dowis Dawson of Marietta, GA; daughter-in-law, Tracie Dowis of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren, Kevin (Carolyn) Fleeman, Shad (Kris) Fleeman, Lenden (Gemma) Fleeman, Krissy Fleeman, Matthew Milton Dawson, Madeline Grace Dowis and Grant Michael Dowis; and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held in the Royston Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, with Dr. Danny Barton. Interment will follow in the Franklin Memorial Gardens- South in Royston.
The family will receive friends in the Royston Baptist Church Family Life Center from 12:00 p.m. until funeral hour on Wednesday afternoon.
