While the family of Frank W. Shaw mourns his passing, Frank would be the first to tell everyone, “I’m a winner either way!” Frank W. Shaw, of Great Falls and formerly of Helena, passed away April 12, 2010, at the age of 68. Frank was not quite ready to leave his family and the activities he enjoyed, yet his heart was content with the knowledge he would continue living in the arms of the Lord.

Born and raised in Deer Lodge, Frank spent his youth carousing in Powell County. He discovered a love of horses at a young age and worked diligently to become a skilled horseman. The competition and camaraderie of roping and riding were etched in his bones. He competed as long as he could, concluding his roping career as the season champion heeler in both 2004 and 2005.

Frank earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Montana and went on to obtain a master’s in economics from Montana State, after which he began a long, successful career in the banking industry. He retired as president and CEO of Wells Fargo Bank, Great Falls, in 2000.

Frank was not a man to toot his own horn, but we’re happy to do that for him. Tough and resolute, Frank bravely, strongly and quietly fought through many medical challenges over the past several years. With his positive outlook, many did not know the depth of his problems; his genuine concern and compassion for others always took precedence over his own needs.

Over the years, Frank volunteered his time and expertise to several organizations, most notably, NeighborWorks - an organization he served as board member and volunteer since 1985. Frank was very active on board committees and worked with other housing advocates to create what has become NeighborWorks Montana, a statewide housing nonprofit organization.

In 1982, Frank and Denise Redlin Rauser married. Their profound love for each other and faith in the Lord created a mutually devoted and deeply connected relationship. Frank was a wonderful husband who cherished his wife; his children are grateful for the example of a loving, secure and joyful marriage.

Frank was a Montana cowboy with old-fashioned values, morals and a straightforward way. His honesty and integrity were unwavering. He was an excellent father who used his steady, calm way to impart these values to his children. Proud and loving, Frank didn’t miss an opportunity to let his children know how much they meant to him.

An embodiment of so many outstanding qualities Frank was a friend and mentor to many. He had a unique way of making people feel welcomed and special. Frank’s life was all about people and those he encountered will be forever touched by him.

His family will miss his sense of humor, the twinkle in his eye and his gentle, loving way. He was their rock.
