He married on Feb 17th, 1892 at Preston, Jackson CO, IA to Alice Sullivan, born July 1868 Jackson CO, IA and died Nov 4th, 1944 Fairmont, Martin CO, MN. Martin Joseph McGee SR and his wife, Alice (Sullivan) McGee, are both buried at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Fairmont, Martin CO, MN. They had 9 children: Mary Catherine May McGee (Freer), Michael Raymond McGee, James Arthur McGee, Cyril Francis McGee, Daniel Edwin McGee, Margaret Loretta McGee (Berg), Martin Joseph McGee Jr, Cecelia Alice McGee (never married) and William Simon McGee. They are on find-a-grave site and some are pictured. Martin Joseph McGee SR parents were Michael McGee born CO Tipperary Ireland 1834 to James McGee born 1790 CO TIPPERARY, Munster, Ireland. They lived at the parish of Ballina/Boher, townland of Grange in CO Tipperary. They emigrated in 1844. His wife was Mary O’Brien, born 1794 Tipperary IRE, married in 1820 and she died on April 3rd, 1867 at Lucan, Ontario. James died on Sept 9th 1869 and they are buried at Saint Patrick's Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Lucan, Biddulph, Middlesex CO, Ontario, Canada. Their gravestone is the cover of this book and on their gravestone is this quote, “In 1844, as a family of nine, they risked death on the ocean to escape tyranny and starvation, by the grace of god, all survived to honour his name trough full lives and many descendants.” It is a magnificent marker. This is pictured on find-a-grave site. Visit the web page sometime and leave a message and a flower. I hope you can make a trip there to see it in person.
Their son Michael McGee died on Aug 28th, 1894 Green CO, IA, buried at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Churdan, Green CO, IA with his wife Margaret McLaughlin born 1844 Ireland and died on Feb 11th, 1896 Green CO, IA. They were married in Canada at Huran, Ontario, on Jan. 31st, 1861. Also on find-a-grave. Found this story from local newspapers of the day in Iowa about him: “Michael McGee, a prominent farmer living in north Cedar Township, met with a fatal accident Wednesday. He was driving home from Lohrville when his team became unmanagable and ran away. Mr. McGee was thrown to the ground and killed almost instantly. The funeral was held Thursday and the burial made in the Cedar township cemetery. Mr. McGee leaves a large family to mourn his untimely and sudden death.” Another newspaper stated this: “Mr. Michael McGee, of Northwest Cedar township, met with a terrible accident on Tuesday night which caused his death. He was returning home from Lohrville when it is supposed that his horse became unmanageable and threw him out and dragged him. He was bruised so that he was almost past recognition.” -The sad thing about all of this, he was visiting his newly married son in the nearby town of Lohrville. Margaret McLaughlin parents were Martin McLaughlin and Temperance Hite both born Ireland. Alice’s parents were Timothy Sullivan, b. March 1834 IRE, Immigrated 1857 and died 1917 at Clinton, Clinton CO, IA and Catherine Devlihan, b. March 1830 IRE and died 1912, who came to America (Iowa). Married 1870 and immigrated in 1857.
