He commanded a company of men under Colonel Morris Graham's Sixth New York Militia, from Dutchess County, NY in the Revolution. They fought in the battle of Saratoga and helped in the capture of Burgoyne in October of 1777. James was later given the title of Colonel and was a presidential elector in 1812. He was a highly respected citizen. 1782: Had twin children. No other data is known about them.
