Son of Daniel and Sarah (Hampson) McGowan of Memramcook, Westmorland County, New Brunswick. Husband of Maud Evelyn (Gibbs) McGowan.

Frank immigrated from Memramcook, Werstmorland county, New Brunswick, Canada to the Massachusetts in the United States in 1899. He is found living in New Bedford, MA in the 1910 US Census living with his brother Henry "Harry" McGowan. He also became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1910. Frank was single at this time and owned his own blacksmith shop. Frank, at age 42, married divorcee Maude Evelyn Gibbs, age 39, on May 25, 1918 at Plainfield, Connecticut. In the 1920 Census Frank is living in New Bedford with his wife Maude. In 1930 he was living with his wife Maude and his father Daniel (age 85) and a "maid." The maid was probably to help care for his aged father Daniel. Around this time was still working as a blacksmith and advertised himself as "The Spring Man" (see photo of promotional fob). His father Daniel passed at Frank's home in New Bedford on November 10, 1932 at age 88. In 1940 Frank and Maude are still residing in New Bedford. His nephew, Arthur Bradley (age 29, born Montreal, Hochelaga County, Quebec, Canada) is living with them and apparently working as the blacksmith shop bookkeeper. Frank passed on January 17, 1946. He is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in New Bedford. This information was provided by the City Clerk's Office in New Bedford.

Maud Evelyn (Gibbs) McGowan’s parents, Nathan Soule Gibbs and Sophie Elizabeth (Ames) Gibbs, are buried at Rural Cemetery in New Bedford, MA. The memorial for Nathan states that their daughter Maud Evelyn (Gibbs) McGowan died in April 1967. Maude is buried near them at Rural Cemetery.

A burial lot for six graves at St. Mary's Cemetery was purchased by Maude McGowan. There are five empty graves at this cemetery lot - only Frank is buried there. Why would Maude and/or Frank purchase six burial plots when they had no children? This seems quite strange.
