SP3 US ARMYRuth Phares Buckle was born in Cottage Grove, Ore., on Sept. 13, 1931, and died in Albany, Ore., on April 1, 2016.

She was the seventh daughter of Frank and Dora Walker. Ruth, her seven sisters and one brother grew up on the family farm at Nimrod, Ore. As a youth, she and her siblings would row the boat across the McKenzie River to catch the school bus along the highway. One of Ruth's favorite pastimes was singing with her sisters in four-part harmony.

After selling the farm, Ruth's family moved to Eugene, Ore., where she graduated from Eugene High School in 1949. Ruth earned a bachelor's degree from Oregon College of Education (now Western Oregon University) in 1955.

She taught school in Roseburg, Ore., where she met Harvey Herbert Buckle. They were married in 1956. Harvey and Ruth moved to Klamath Falls, Ore., in 1967. After raising three boys, she helped Harvey run the piano business. Church activities were an important part of Ruth's life. She taught Sunday school and led a Bible club for neighborhood children. For the past 19 years, Ruth and Harvey pastored Life Community Church in Klamath Falls.

Ruth is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
