Mike died of COPD as a result of smoking cigarettes for many, many years. He would speak at many different venues to encourage smokers to stop..offering tips and encouragement. Below is a post he made on Facebook in December of 2017

Just a thought if God says worry not what you shall say for in the hour you are to speak I will give you the words and what so ever you need I will bring it to remembrance what so ever you need as you need it, then why do we even need a sermon out line for I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you and out of the abundance of the heart the mouth will speak. Always be ready to give an account for the hope that is with in you. These are just thoughts mind you. But if our bibles were taken away from us how many of us would able to speak his word any way? For the last 5 years God has been preaching in the schools through me! I do not spend my whole hour speaking about tobacco that just opens the door. I have never prepared what to say and because of that the Holy Spirit has freedom to pour out his word through me. Every speech has been different and every speech has been powerful and I have never been at loss for words. A lot of testimony is shared and it is all done in such a way that no one has caught on that I am speaking principals strait out of the bible. I have been told by many in the school district that I am the best speaker they have ever heard and I can't tell them who the credit goes to but God understands, he said to be wise as serpents redeeming the time. The only real problem I have in my Christian life today is that I worked so hard to mold myself to the church that I have become well-behaved passive and quiet, God help me to break free these confines to become a Lion of the tribe of Juda that I was called to be. I look forward to the day when church sounds more like a football game than a funeral service. These are just thoughts mind you.
