Della appears to have gone exclusively by her middle name. She was the third child of Boland and Millie (Morris) Cauley. She married her first husband, Earl McCart, on 9 April 1910. They were second cousins through the Dannelley side of the family. Della and Earl had seven children, three daughters and four sons. Earl passed away in 1941. Della remarried to Charles Peyton Braswell on 10 December 1945. After Charlie's death in 1950, Della moved to Phenix City, which is where most of her children were living by that time. She remained in Phenix City until her death in 1974.

Della is remembered as funny, loud, and organized. She was very sure of how things should be done and often served as the family mediator, especially among her sisters.
