On September 5,1946 he was united in marriage to Mary Lee Hammons Mills. He was a WWII Veteran having earned a Purple Heart and a retired Carpenter. He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church having served as a Deacon for Fifty years. He loved to go to church, walk, garden, loved to hunt when he was able to and made the best Chicken and Dumpling.
Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by four brothers: Thomas, Claude, Jim and Obie Mills and seven sisters Mary Warren, Sally Broughton, Kitty Broughton, Nancy Bell Hinkle, Rachel Warren, Aldie Jones and Martha Mills.
Survivors include two sons: Jerry D. Mills and wife Jane of Cannon, KY, Conley Lee Mills and wife Freda of Heidrick, KY. four grandchildren Stephanie Mills, Nicholas Mills, Jerry Christopher Mills and Mat thew Dale Mills four great grand children Jackson Mills, Kaytlyn Mills , Jacob Tyler Mills and Haley Brooke Mills. A very special Niece Gustie Hinkle and sister in law Louisa Mills. A host of Nieces, Nephews, Relatives and friends tom mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday February 2, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. with Josh Smith, David Barnard, Bill Wolfe and Earl Hammons officiating. Burial will follow in the Tuggle Cemetery with Men at Springfield Baptist Church serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are all his friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends at Hampton Funeral Home on Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:0 0 p.m. To the Mills family, the staff of the Hampton Funeral Home would like to offer you our heartfelt sympathy during your time of bereavement.
