From Richmond Newspaper Obituary:

May 4, 1915

Captain W. Dudley Rudd, fifty-nine years old, a well-known conductor on the Southern Railway, died yesterday morning at 3:45 o'clock at his home in Keysville. Captain Rudd was in good health up to a few days ago, when he was suddenly stricken with paralysis. Besides his widow, Captain Rudd is survived by three daughters, Misses Rachel and Ruth Rudd, of Keysville, and Mrs. W. A. Crutcher, of Drake's Branch, and four sons, L. E. and R. E. Rudd, of Richmond, and D. M. and L. O. Rudd, of Keysville. He also leaves on sister and two brothers. Captain Rudd was one of the most widely-known conductors on the road. He was in charge of an accommodation train running between Keysville and this city for many years, and was acquainted with hundreds of people on the line. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at Dorset, Powhatan County. Representatives from the Order of Railway Conductors and other organizations will be present at the funeral.
