EASTLAND—Bertha Alford, 86, of Eastland, passed away Sunday [August 4] in Eastland. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Hayes officiating. Burial will be in the Merriman Cemetery in Ranger.

Mrs. Alford was born on May 10, 1916 in Swisher County, Texas to Lonzo and Talatha (Fox) Taylor. She attended Eastland county schools. She married Doc Alford on April 2, 1934 in Ranger. Mrs. Alford was an employee of the Lancaster Clothes Factory and the Melrose Dress Shop. She was a very talented seamstress and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and handy work. She was a member of the Camp Inspiration Church of God in Eastland. She had lived in Dallas and most recently at Lake Leon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Shirley Lynch, and a brother Andy J. Taylor.

She is survived by her husband, Doc, of Eastland; daughters, Barbara Jones Brown of Ranger, Sylvia Moreland of Lake Leon, and Ida Lea Norris of Eastland; son, Robert Lonzo "Bud" Alford of Pearl, Mississippi; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.
