Mrs. Joe Baker, 71, of Mayeta, died this morning at a local hospital. She was born in DeKalb, Missouri, November 11, 1864, had been a resident of Kansas in the vicinity of Mayetta for the past fifty years and was a member of the Christian church at Mayetta.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. James Mummert, Mrs. Nelson Lower and Mrs. Frank Huey; one son, Hugh Baker; a sister, Mrs. Mary Yeakley, Mayetta; two brothers, John Carrel, Mayetta, and J. A. Carrel, Mexico, Missouri, and seventeen grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Christian church in Mayetta. Burial in Mayetta cemetery. The Topeka State Journal, April 15, 1936.


Grandma Baker died in a Topeka hosital last week and her funeral was held last week at the Christian church here on Thursday. She has been a resident of our community and town for a long time.

Her last illness lasted over a year. Her sufferings were intense. She was buried by the side of her husband in Mayetta cemetery. Thus another of our pioneers has passed. The family have our sympathy in their bereavement. The Holton Recorder, April 24, 1936.
