Remains Were Shipped to Hebron

P.C. Califf died in this city, last Saturday night, and the body was shipped to Hebron, via Chester, Monday evening. Califf came here in the spring in search of health, and worked for a short while on the new high school building early in the summer. The local A.O.U.W. looked after his case. The county recorder of Thayer county came after the remains. Deceased left two children, a boy and a girl, one of them mentally deficient. The first wife of deceased died some time (sic) since and the second wife deserted the family, so the children are orphans indeed.

Death of P.C. Califf

P.C. Califf an old time carpenter of Hebron died at McCook, Nebr., last Saturday afternoon, aged 47 years.

On July 6th, Hebron Lodge No. 123, A.O.U.W. sent Mr. Califf to McCook, in hopes the change of climate would help cure his asthma. But he steadily declined until death called him. The Hebron lodge delegated H.L. Boyes to go to McCook and settle up affairs and bring the body to Hebron for interment. Herm drove to Chester, Sunday evening and returned Tuesday morning at seven o'clock, driving overland from Chester with the body, when a delegation met the remains, and in the early morning hours the body was laid to rest, the funeral being conducted by Rev. M.C. Brooks.

Mr. Boyes said that the McCook Lodge adjourned lodge and in a body escorted the remains to the train. They had also been especially considerate in supplying a nurse, medical attendance, etc., for which the Hebron lodge will reimburse them.

Mr. Califf's $2,000 Workman insurance will go to his orphan son and daughter, S.I. Morse having been appointed their guardian by the court.
