Born on May 7, 1935 in Portland, ME, he was the son of the late Gerald Close and the late Irene (Eagles) Close.
David honorably served our country in the United States Air Force and remained proud of his military service and fellow Veterans throughout his life. He worked for many years in retail automobile sales and as a mechanic before retiring. A resident of Franklin for the past two years, he previously lived in Colebrook, New Hampshire.
An outgoing man with many interests in life, he had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. He had a love of the ocean and seafood; held a special place in his heart for New Hampshire, and Acadia, Maine; and loved visits to the mountains and to our national parks. David enjoyed working on cars, dancing, and grilling. More than anything, he cherished his family and treasured his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he held most dear.
David leaves his loving children: Sherrie Ann Lafferty and her husband, Agie Lafferty, of Virginia; Gerald Richard Close and his wife, Janet M. Close, of Carver, MA; Michael Andrew Close and his husband, Roger Close, of Kingston, MA; Edward Gregory Close and his wife, Deborah A. Close, of Franklin, MA; Rachel Gill and her husband, Roland Gill, of Blackstone, MA; Ronda Dumond and her husband, Gerry Dumond, of Manville, RI; the late Ronnie McKeage; Roy McKeage of Bellingham, MA; and Regina Varney of Pittsburg, NH, and her late husband, Les Varney. He was a proud and adoring grandfather and great-grandfather. David was the brother of Barry Close of Norton, MA, and was predeceased by his siblings: the late Fred Close; and the late Philip Close. He leaves several nieces and nephews, his extended family, and many dear friends.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Graveside Service with Full Military Honors on Friday, March 20, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
